To start the 2015/16 season, the Forster Triathlon Club has decided to take part in the Trystars program. Through the wonderful support of Major Sponsor McDonalds Forster and Forster Triathlon Club, the cost of this program has been discounted from $120 to $40. Kicking off on Saturday at 3.30pm on the 3rd October at the Bullring, Forster. The program will run for 5 weeks for 90 minutes and conclude on the 31st October.
TRYstars is Triathlon Australia’s national “first touch” junior participation program for 7-12 yr olds that encourages kids to get involved in Triathlon all around Australia. It is based on action packed swim, ride and run games delivered during up to 5 x 1.5 hour sessions and ensures kids of all skill levels and abilities between the ages of 7 and 12, achieve success. It is available exclusively through accredited Triathlon Australia “TRYstars” Clubs and is delivered by Triathlon Australia Accredited TRYstars Coaches.
There are two groups – Mini-Stars (7-9yr olds) and Super-Stars (10-12yr olds) programs, and TRYstars participants need to be able to swim 50 metres and ride unaided without the use of training wheels. They also need to have a bike, helmet and pair of shoes. The program embodies the 5 core values of Triathlon Australia (Respect, Health, Enjoyment, Belonging, Achievement).
The TRYstars Program is the only “first touch” National junior sport participation program in Australia which addresses all FUNdamental movement skills, i.e. agility, balance, coordination, speed, running, jumping, gliding, buoyancy, throwing, catching, kicking and hitting. Fundamental movement skills are required for kids to develop basic movement literacy successfully, which will then encourage their successful participation in any sport. Kids with these experiences are far more likely to enjoy successful, lifelong participation in a range of sports and in active recreational pursuits.
The program consists of up to 8 action packed, game-based sessions. Each session may consist of 3 types of activities – a swim game, a ride game and a run game, with many sessions combining all 3 games into 1 combination activity.
Kids are rewarded throughout the program, with coloured TRYstars wrist bands as they achieve skill milestones in the areas of swim, bike, and run in both the Mini-Stars and Super-Stars program segments.
Triathlon Australia and our State/Territory Triathlon Association members have done everything possible to ensure the success of this program. One way we have done this is to minimise registration costs as much as possible.
The fee for the TRYstars Program is $40. For this your child will –
- be given a discount code to join Triathlon Australia (after registering for the TRYstars program) as an annual member for the rest of the financial year – a value of either $30 or $60 (depending on the age of your child).
- receive a “Kit Bag” at their first session full of triathlon related goodies, including a TRYstars rash vest, cap and drink bottle.
